The title of my inquiry is T.E.A.L., an acronym for Technology Enhancing Assessment List. My plan is to explore different technologies and describe their relationship to the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains of PHE assessment.

A week into my inquiry and I’m off and running! I have interviewed two PHE teachers at Reynolds Secondary as well as two PHE teacher from Stelly’s Secondary. I have a few new resources in mind, and I’ve also begun investigating my existing resources. Moving ahead into November, I have a month or so investigate and complete my inquiry. This is a tight timeline, but my current level of immersion and passion is giving me confidence. One thing I’m grappling with still is the shape of the artifact that will serve as the legacy of my inquiry. I want to create a useful artifact that future teacher candidates (or professional teachers) can access to improve their practice.

I spoke with a number of teachers this week, and compiled a list of a number of ways teachers are using technology to enhance their assessment. To be clear, I’m not exploring ways that teachers input data into technology to assist with their assessment protocols. I’m exploring how students can better use technology to show their learning in a Physical and Health Education environment. Gabe Black is a teacher at Reynolds Secondary and is a mentor of mine who shares many similar ideals. Today he shared a tech tool that he’s created called “my quantified self”. I love it! I began looking into more about the idea of a ‘quantified self’ and found a beginners guide with a list of personal data tools.

My resource list is growing (daily it seems), but my focus and question remains focused and tight. I’m excited to explore more and share my progress. Thanks for reading! – Mike
