Technology is the campfire around which we tell our stories.

This first blog post of my inquiry is to provide an introduction to my inquiry and rationalise some of my resources. In choosing a topic and narrowing down a focus question, I pondered what teaching areas I wanted to develop. I immediately chose assessment as an area I wanted more knowledge in. Tying in my journey through technological competencies and my exploration into the modern classroom, my inquiry question was easy to find and is natural to think about. Considering my single teachable area as a teaching candidate, my question became: How can the integration of technology impact assessment in the Secondary PHE classroom?

The title of my inquiry is T.E.A.L., an acronym for Technology Enhancing Assessment List. My plan is to explore different technologies and describe their relationship to the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains of PHE assessment.

I have narrowed my topic down to a question, and I have a preliminary list of resources. I have compiled pertinent class readings, a great government publication on assessment tools, a list of colleagues to interview, and a few tech tools to get myself started. There are plenty of journal articles like this one to base my findings in academic research. I plan to connect with fellow professionals at Reynolds and Stelly’s Secondary schools, as well as teacher candidate colleagues and instructors at UVic.

The journey to a final product will happen here as I chart my progress through this blog. There will be a gallery walk where I present this journey as well. Trello will help me organize the flow of my inquiry and stay on task. The final product will be an artifact, an open education resource that can be used by others.

Thanks for reading!
